It provides guid- ance on how policy-makers, practitioners, nongovernmental organizations and civil society can improve the health and well- being of ageing women by simultaneously applying both a gender and an ageing lens in their policies, programmes and prac- tices, as well as in research. A full review of the evidence is available in a longer complementary document entitled Women, Ageing and Health: A Review. About This Report TIhe concepts and principles in this document build on the World Health Organization's active ageing policy frame- work, which calls on policy- makers, prac- titioners, nongovernmental organizations and civil society to optimize opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance quality of life for people as they age.' This requires a comprehensive approach that takes into account the gen- dered nature of the life course.
