This volume contains policy research papers prepared for the World Bank's Poverty and Equity Assessment for Egypt， Understanding Poverty and Inequality in Egypt. The volume organizes the policy research papers into five chapters. Chapter 1 was written by Gabriel l _ara lbarra. Chapter 2 was writen by Heba El Laithy and Dina Armanious. Chapter 3 was written by Natalie Chun. Chapter 4 was written by Clemens Breisinger， Askar Mukashov， Mariam Raouf， and Manfred Wiebelt. Chapter 5 was written by Gabriel Lara lbarra， Nistha Sinha， Jon Jellema， and Rana Fayez.
The World Bank greatly appreciates the collaboration with the Government of Egypt （the Ministry of International Cooperation and the Central Administration for Public Mobilization and Statistics） in the preparation of the poverty and equity assessment report. The report was produced as part of the programmatic poverty assessment work of the World Bank's Poverty and Equity Global Practice. Nistha Sinha and Gabriel Lara lbarra led the preparation of this report， with key contributions from Yeon Soo Kim， Rana Fayez， Souraya El Assiouty， Andrea Germiniasi， Trinidad Saavedra， and Jeeyeon Soo.
